A word from Cave de France: Produced by the famous Loch Lomond distillery, Spearhead is a fairly modern and accessible "single grain" Scotch whisky. Despite using 100% malted barley, this whisky is distilled in a continuous column still, which classifies it as "grain" rather than "malt".
Spearhead is matured in ex-bourbon barrels, then undergoes a final aging in new American oak barrels traditionally "toasted" and infrared-treated, a method that gives it a more pronounced sweetness, bringing sweet, vanilla, sometimes fruity or woody aromas.
On the nose, sources report notes of vanilla, caramel, red or black fruits (blackcurrant, blackberry), chocolate, floral touches, and fresh bread.
On the palate, it stands out with a soft, round texture, with flavors of apple or ripe fruits, brown sugar or cassonade, vanilla; all accompanied by a rather soft, light finish, with a woody and slightly spicy touch.
