Saumur Champigny red 75cl X 6
100% Cabernet Franc
Château de Targé 2020
Organic wine
A note from Cave de France: Cultivated on the clay-limestone soils characteristic of the Parnay region, near Saumur, this emblematic Saumur Champigny has been in our cellar for 15 years.
When tasted, this wine reveals a brilliant ruby color and offers a rich bouquet of black fruit aromas such as blackberry and blackcurrant, accompanied by vegetal notes typical of Cabernet Franc, like green bell pepper and a slightly herbaceous touch.
On the palate, it presents supple tannins and a delicate structure, with flavors of redcurrant and blackberry, supported by a light spice.
This Saumur-Champigny pairs perfectly with dishes such as Andouille de Vire with mustard or a leg of lamb, highlighting its versatility and elegance.
Targé, a long and beautiful history...
Château de Targé is part of a rich and prestigious history that spans centuries. Since its foundation in 1655, it has remained a symbol of elegance and tradition, preserved within the same family line, a testament to exceptional continuity. The estate has seen influential political and intellectual figures pass through its doors. Among them were Abel-François Villemain, writer and minister under Louis-Philippe, his son-in-law François Allain-Targé, député for Paris and minister under Léon Gambetta, as well as Charles Ferry, brother of Jules Ferry, député and senator for the Vosges. These personalities marked the history of the place, imbuing it with a character rich in culture and commitment.
In 1950, Fresnette Ferry, the last heiress of the Ferry family, married Edgard Pisani, an eminent minister under General de Gaulle. Together, they undertook a vast restoration project of the estate, then marked by the ravages of two world wars. This project brought the château and its vineyards back to life, laying the foundations for a viticultural renaissance.
In 1976, their son, Édouard Pisani-Ferry, an agronomist passionate about viticulture, took over the reins of the estate. A visionary, he modernized the infrastructure by equipping the château with a cellar featuring thermo-regulated vats, while expanding the vineyard to 24 hectares. A pioneer of sustainable viticulture, Édouard adopted ecological practices and joined, in 2000, the Terra Vitis association, a pioneer in reasoned agriculture. His commitment reflects a desire to combine innovation with respect for the terroir.
In 2017, the management of the estate passed into the hands of his son, Paul Pisani-Ferry, representing the new generation. True to the family spirit, Paul continued this work by focusing on biodiversity preservation and initiating the transition to organic farming. Under his direction, Château de Targé continues its quest for excellence, combining respect for traditions and openness to the future, to produce exceptional wines that honor the history and terroir from which they come.
