Saumur Champigny red 75cl
100% Cabernet Franc
Château de Targé 2020
Organic wine
A note from Cave de France: Grown on clay-limestone soils characteristic of the Parnay region, near Saumur, this Saumur Champigny, emblematic of its appellation, has been in our cellar for 15 years.
When tasted, this wine reveals a brilliant ruby color and offers a rich bouquet of black fruit aromas such as blackberry and blackcurrant, accompanied by vegetal notes typical of Cabernet Franc, such as green pepper and a slightly herbaceous touch.
On the palate, it presents supple tannins and a delicate structure, with flavors of redcurrant and blackberry, supported by a slight spice.
This Saumur-Champigny pairs perfectly with dishes such as Vire andouille with mustard or a leg of lamb, highlighting its versatility and elegance.
Targé, a long and beautiful history...
Château de Targé is part of a rich and prestigious history that spans centuries. Since its foundation in 1655, it has remained a symbol of elegance and tradition, preserved within the same family line, bearing witness to exceptional continuity. The estate has seen influential political and intellectual figures pass through its doors. Among them were Abel-François Villemain, writer and minister under Louis-Philippe; his son-in-law François Allain-Targé, deputy of Paris and minister under Léon Gambetta; and Charles Ferry, brother of Jules Ferry, deputy and senator of the Vosges. These personalities have marked the history of the place, imbuing it with a character rich in culture and commitment.
In 1950, Fresnette Ferry, the last heiress of the Ferry family, married Edgard Pisani, an eminent minister under General de Gaulle. Together, they undertook a vast restoration project of the estate, which had been marked by the ravages of the two world wars. This project brought the château and its vineyards back to life, laying the foundations for a viticultural renaissance.
In 1976, their son, Édouard Pisani-Ferry, an agricultural engineer passionate about viticulture, took over the reins of the estate. A visionary, he modernized the infrastructure by equipping the château with a cellar featuring temperature-controlled tanks, while extending the vineyard to 24 hectares. A pioneer of sustainable viticulture, Édouard adopted ecological practices and, in 2000, joined the Terra Vitis association, a leader in sustainable agriculture. His commitment reflects a desire to combine innovation with respect for the terroir.
In 2017, the management of the estate passed into the hands of his son, Paul Pisani-Ferry, representing the new generation. True to the family spirit, Paul continues this work by focusing on biodiversity preservation and initiating the transition to organic farming. Under his leadership, Château de Targé pursues its quest for excellence, combining respect for traditions with an openness to the future, to produce exceptional wines that honor the history and terroir from which they originate.
