3rd Wine of Château Calon Ségur 3rd Grand Cru Classé 1855

A word from Cave de France: A refined wine, the result of a sincere work of patience and gentleness, as the Estate so aptly describes it in its "éloge de la finesse".
This alternative wine from the prestigious Château Calon Ségur could easily be the second, if not the first, wine for other Saint Estèphe châteaux! Grown on gravelly soils, this Saint Estèphe is flavorful. The elegance and finesse of the tannins, the fruity and slightly woody flavors open the way to a multitude of food and wine pairings, with both white and red meats, with light and strong sauces, with subtle or spicy condiments. A stuffed capon, a parsley-crusted rack of lamb, a braised veal roast, quails with grapes, cheeses such as Beaufort or Tomme Fleurie...

A word from Calon Ségur: At the center of all attention and at the center of the label, the heart has been the symbol of Calon since the 18th century, thanks to the Marquis de Ségur and this phrase that has spanned time: "I make wine at Lafite and Latour, but my heart is at Calon." The Marquis de Ségur, nicknamed the "Prince of the Vines," was then one of the most influential men in Bordeaux. He reigned over the main crus of the Médoc. His wines seduced Versailles and, in turn, all the courts of Europe.
The heart was engraved in the 19th century on the facade of the cellar. The accompanying mention, "Premier cru de Saint-Estèphe," emphasizes that the estate is the oldest in the commune.
Fifty-five hectares at the time of the 1855 classification, fifty-five hectares today: the Calon Ségur enclosure offers a rare example of terroir consistency through the centuries. Behind the thick stone wall, the vineyard wraps around the chartreuse in a single block with, right at its feet, the eternal plots of "L'Enclos." For specialists, this is a historical heritage.
