A word from Cave de France: The DBM VO, from the very old Bonne-Mère Distillery, is an aged Guadeloupean rum made from a blend of rums aged 3, 4, and 7 years, matured in oak barrels in a tropical climate.
Its golden mahogany color hints at an aromatic richness, confirmed by the generous nose: notes of honey, acacia flower, and vanilla take the lead, accompanied by a slightly toasted wood and gourmet aromas evoking custard flan. On the palate, it seduces with its caramelized sweetness, enhanced by touches of salted butter, then evolves towards ripe fruits like pear and hog plum. The finish is long and refined, marked by vanilla, a toasted hint of green coffee, and a well-balanced noble wood, leaving an impression of depth and enveloping warmth.
The Bonne-Mère Distillery, abbreviated DBM, is located in Sainte-Rose, Guadeloupe, in a humid area at the foot of the Basse-Terre rainforest. The site benefits from a favorable natural environment that contributes to the slow maturation of the rums. It originated from an old sugar estate founded at the end of the 18th century and was officially recognized as a distillery in 1863, perpetuating centuries-old expertise.
DBM is known for its exceptional aging cellar housing nearly 10,000 oak barrels, one of the largest in the Overseas Territories. It produces traditional molasses rums, relying on old techniques (distillation, aging in a tropical climate) while integrating modern approaches, particularly in terms of eco-responsibility, heritage enhancement, and quality. In 2024, it launched its own brand "DBM" to better promote its prestigious cuvées, including aged rums like VO, VSOP, XO, and limited-edition anniversary releases such as the Cuvée 1863. DBM embodies a balance between tradition, terroir, aromatic elegance, and environmental respect, making it a flagship of Guadeloupean rum.
