A word from Cave de France: I will be forgiven for my impossible impartiality, so personally attached am I to this Sarthois terroir, the most 'northern vineyard of the Loire' (with the Orléanais), where I grew up. As a child, I heard Jasnières spoken of as a local pride, to be ranked among departmental glories such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Rillettes, Loué Chickens, and even Mutuelles! At the time, however, some straight-laced individuals did not share this opinion; no one is a prophet in their own land, as they say... But since the 1970s, things have changed a lot, and Jasnières has regained the place that good King Henri IV once gave it: a high-quality wine, served on the finest tables, praised by gastronomic critics who see it as an authentic nectar, not having succumbed to the steamroller of standardization.
This "Jus de Terre" (Earth Juice) gives full meaning to the word 'minerality'. Its subtle acidity, its iodized touch, make it the perfect companion for seafood. Its terroir accents call for a well-aged goat cheese, a fish in sauce, a guinea fowl. A "juice" from the land of France, discreet but sincere, straightforward and authentic... like a Sarthois!
