A word from Cave de France: Dry and mellow, this lovely Clos Saint Jacques will accompany fish, white meats, and various cheeses. We appreciate its mineral notes, its aromas of fresh mushroom and undergrowth, its typicality, and its originality.
To reiterate my more general point about Jasnières:
Please excuse my impossible impartiality, as I am personally very attached to this Sarthois terroir, the "northernmost vineyard of the Loire" (along with Orléanais), where I grew up. As a child, I heard Jasnières spoken of as a local pride, to be ranked among departmental glories such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Rillettes, Loué Chickens, and even Mutual Insurances! At the time, however, some fuddy-duddies did not share this opinion; no one is a prophet in their own land, as they say... But since the 1970s, things have changed considerably, and Jasnières has regained the place that good King Henri IV once attributed to it: a high-quality wine, served on the finest tables, lauded by gastronomic critics who see it as an authentic nectar, having not succumbed to the steamroller of standardization.
