Distilled from lemon verbena hand-picked in their herbalist's botanical garden, it is based on a classic blend of juniper, coriander, angelica, and winter savory, with no artificial additives, sugar, or coloring. It boasts a citrusy aromatic profile: verbena brings a sweet, almost licorice-like lemon note, enhanced by a touch of lemon sherbet that gives it a sweet vivacity. On the palate, it is light, clean, evoking lemon zest and fresh herbs, with a clean and refreshing finish that leaves a persistent herbal sensation. It is a gin that evokes summer, a perfect companion for a light tonic or a cocktail where verbena can fully express itself.
The Secret Garden Distillery is nestled in the Pentland Hills, on the outskirts of Edinburgh, Scotland. It is built around a lush botanical garden, the Secret Herb Garden, which boasts over 600 varieties of plants: aromatic herbs, flowers, shrubs, cultivated without chemicals, some of which are hand-picked and dried on site. The distillery's concept is based on a "seed to sip" approach where everything, from garden to bottle, is designed holistically and sustainably. Distillations are carried out in a artisanal facility: copper stills converted from old outbuildings, botanicals grown on site, all processes carried out on site, including packaging.
Since 2022, the company has been owned by the Armstrong family, with Isobel and Imogen Armstrong in charge of development, who have strengthened the environmental commitment and brand identity. The garden provides the plants for the gins, the water used comes from a borehole on the property, and the packaging is designed to be recyclable, often from recycled materials. The ranges include classic and more audacious expressions, often inspired by seasonal plants or original blends, with attention paid to creating natural aromas without artificial colors or added sugars.
