A word from Cave de France: This great Burgundy wine, 1er Cru from Fixin, is a pure marvel. It offers a beautiful tannic structure, a marked minerality, and good aging potential. It can be enjoyed young, but it gains complexity after a few years in the cellar.
Its elegant texture evokes velvet on the palate, with black cherry aromas enveloping the senses. True to its reputation, Domaine Pierre Gelin offers high-quality wines that are consistently excellent.
Some pairing ideas: chicken fricassee, guinea fowl supreme, venison pâté, stuffed capon, sauced dishes, beef bourguignon, of course... all well-aged cheeses.
Clos Napoléon is a monopole plot, meaning Domaine Gelin is its sole owner. This "clos," approximately 2 hectares, is classified as Premier Cru, which is one of the highest distinctions for Burgundy climats.
Clos Napoléon is today one of the most prestigious wines of the Fixin appellation.
It symbolizes not only the quality of the Côte de Nuits terroir but also a historical and sentimental link to a key period in French history, marked by the figure of Napoleon.

A word from Domaine Pierre Gelin: The Clos Napoléon, a plot formerly cadastred "Aux Cheuzots," owes its name to Claude Noisot – an officer of the imperial guard – who owned it. C. Noisot, who accompanied Napoleon to Elba, eager to pay homage to his emperor, commissioned the Dijon sculptor Rude to create a statue erected in Noisot Park. The Clos Napoléon label is a reproduction of this sculpture, "The Awakening of Napoleon."
