A word from Cave de France: Drinking a glass, even just one glass of Château d'Yquem, is one of those exceptional life experiences! Yquem is the King of Sauternes, and for many oenophiles, it is the best wine in the world, no less. The prestige of the name shines worldwide as a guarantee of absolute quality. The Château's exceptional vineyard thrives on a mosaic of soils ranging from gravel to limestone, sand, and clay, on gently sloping hillsides fabulously oriented in the heart of the microclimate of the Garonne Valley – in short, a truly comfortable, XXL bed for the hundred or so hectares cultivated.
This 2015 vintage lives up to all its promises. Sparkling and deep golden color. Perfect unctuousness without a hint of acidity, such exceptional length that a single sip lingers on the palate and can be appreciated for long minutes.
The perfect pairing is obviously with foie gras from the Southwest (of course), but also a beautiful poulard, a Roquefort quiche, hard or blue cheeses, a crème brûlée, a chocolate lava cake, a Dame blanche... welcome to paradise!
A word from Château d'Yquem: In 2015, ideal weather provided early ripening for the domain's Sauvignon and Sémillon grape varieties.
From August 25 to 27, we quickly harvested the Sauvignons to capture their precious freshness. A week later, the Sémillons were in turn perfectly ripe, their skins just marbled by Botrytis cinerea. They were picked on September 3 and 4. Yquem 2015: the perfect reflection of a precise and complete vintage.
Great wines are not born by chance, on any land. A set of climatic and geological circumstances combined in a rare balance makes it possible to truly speak, for Yquem, of a "genius of the place."
Here, all the favorable elements of Sauternes are concentrated in a rare alchemy. The soils, warm and drying on the surface, benefit from heat accumulation by the pebbles of the large gravel. They also have good water reserves due to the clayey nature of their sub-layers. Many springs also surface, and control of the soil's water regime has long motivated the implementation of drainage (100 km of drains since the 19th century). The vast expanse of Yquem has allowed the vineyard (113 ha) to be planted on a very wide range of the geological mosaic of Sauternes. The extraordinary variety of soils that results is a fundamental element of the final complexity of Yquem wine.
