Bordeaux Saint-Émilion red - 75cl
Cabernet Franc, Merlot
1er Grand Cru Classé A
Château Ausone 1981

A note from Cave de France: One of the most prestigious wines of Saint-Émilion, renowned for its deep, distinguished, and incredibly refined style. Primarily made from Cabernet Franc and Merlot, it stands out for a very pure expression of the limestone terroir, offering complex aromas of black fruits, violet, spices, and distinct mineral notes. On the palate, it combines power and precision with a vertical structure, very fine tannins, and remarkable freshness, giving it great elegance and exceptional length. It is a wine with great aging potential, capable of evolving for several decades, gaining in complexity and harmony.

At its peak today, this 1981 develops evolved aromas of undergrowth, leather, and dried leaves, with notes of stewed red fruits and sometimes a floral or mineral touch typical of the estate. On the palate, the structure is supple, the tannins are melted, and the whole relies more on elegance and finesse than on concentration.

The château is a historic and confidential estate of approximately 7 hectares, located on the heights of Saint-Émilion, whose origins date back to antiquity and the Latin poet Ausonius, from whom it takes its name. Remaining in the hands of a few families over the centuries, it has established itself as one of Bordeaux's most iconic growths, long classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé A, before voluntarily withdrawing from the recent classification. Its small production and exceptional terroir make it an absolute benchmark today, combining tradition, precision, and extreme demandingness.
