Bordeaux Saint-Émilion red - 75cl X 6 = €432 per bottle
60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc
1st Grand Cru Classé A
Château Angelus 2017
A note from Cave de France: A prestigious Saint-Émilion wine, renowned for its rich, intense, and profoundly elegant style. Primarily composed of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, it offers a complex bouquet blending ripe black fruits, plum, and cherry, with floral, spicy, and sometimes slightly chocolatey or toasted notes from barrel aging. On the palate, it stands out with a full and velvety texture, powerful yet finely integrated tannins, and great aromatic depth supported by a freshness that ensures balance and length. It is a structured and harmonious wine for aging, gaining in complexity over time and perfectly illustrating the refinement of the great crus of the Right Bank.
The 2017 vintage combines elegance and precision rather than excessive power, in a Bordeaux context marked by a spring frost episode that reduced yields but favored rigorous selection. The wine presents a very expressive aromatic profile, dominated by ripe black and red fruits, accompanied by floral notes, spices, graphite, and slightly toasted touches, with a beautiful freshness that brings brilliance to the whole. On the palate, it offers a silky texture, fine and tight tannins, and a remarkable balance between richness and tension, giving a harmonious style that is more accessible in its youth than some sunnier vintages, while maintaining good aging potential for several decades.
The Château is a historic family property, operated by the de Boüard de Laforest family for several generations, and owes its name to the surrounding church bells whose chimes once punctuated work in the vineyards. Located on an exceptional terroir combining clay and limestone, it has attained the rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé A, the highest level of the Saint-Émilion classification, and is now one of Bordeaux's major references, combining tradition, innovation, and a constant pursuit of excellence.
