Powerful on the palate, Bonnezeaux strikes a good balance between sweetness and vivacity. It pairs well with foie gras, fish in sauce, blue cheeses, and desserts.
Our Bonnezeaux offers a deep, golden-yellow color. With age, it develops coppery reflections. Its nose is quite pronounced, especially when young, and develops aromas of honey and orange peel. It then evolves into an aromatic complexity with a blend of dried fruits, stewed apricot, caramel, exotic fruits, with a spicy touch. On the palate, you will be surprised by its power and opulence. Slightly unctuous, it is perfectly balanced, between sweetness and vivacity.
Bonnezeaux is produced from the Chenin Blanc grape variety. The appellation area is located on only 3 south-facing hillsides in the commune of Thouarcé, in Maine-et-Loire. This is why there are very few producers. To express its potential, this grape variety needs schist and quartz soils, and a sunny location on steep slopes. To obtain this sweet wine, we harvest the grapes by hand, in several passes, when they are perfectly ripe. Slightly shriveled, their sugar concentration is thus higher.
